Village on the Green, a Lifespace Community located in Longwood, Florida is an upscale, gated residential community located on a 50-acre site, which includes a 20-acre nature preserve. The community contains 42 villas, 202 one and two bedroom apartment homes and health center. The amenities includes excellent cuisine at our fine dining restaurant as well as housekeeping, maintenance, 24 on-site security, transportation and quality health care.
We are searching for qualified CNA candidates to work both FT and PRN. Normal scheduled hours are FT 11pm – 7 am including every other weekend and PRN 7am -3pm / 3-pm - 11 pm every other weekend.
POSITION SUMMARY
A Certified Nursing Assistant will report to the Director of Nursing and/or licensed nursing staff. This position is the provider of hands on resident care, including all activities of daily living, participation in planning, assessing, evaluating, providing quality nursing care as well as resident care plans.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Give direct patient care in all aspects of activities of daily living, including but not limited to bathing, showering, grooming, dressing, toileting, dining (feeding and hydration for both regular meals and snacks) and ambulation. Other duties consist of shampooing, oral hygiene, perinea care, nail care and weighing. Observe universal precautions, including proper hand washing in all resident care functions to prevent the spread of disease and infection.
- Assist in resident needs, assessment and safety by observing and reporting any changes or unusual findings in physical condition, attitude, reactions, appetite, etc. to charge nurse. Maintain resident safety by the following:
- Utilize proper techniques in relation to body mechanics when assisting with ambulation, lifting, repositioning or moving residents.
- Report accidents and incidents promptly.
- Ensure call system is within reach of resident and answers lights promptly.
- May be required to work overtime in an emergency.
- Maintain hazard free environment, bed in low position, security devices applied, restraints applied correctly and appropriately, reports broken or malfunctioning equipment to charge nurse, assures identification band is worn by resident.
- Assist nursing staff in taking height measurements, temperature, pulse and respirations of residents. Input vital signs weekly using the OPTIMUS software.
- Maintain written records of weights, bowels and meal consumption percentages. Maintain confidentiality of resident health information. Complete electronic documentation using OPTIMUS for the following: ADL's, weights and bowel records. Complete electronic records using OPTIMUS for the following: meals, snacks and extra fluids.
- Transport residents to activities and functions. Promote resident participation in activities through demonstration of enthusiasm and personal participation.
- May accompany residents to other facilities including, but not limited to, transfer to hospitals and to doctor/dentist appointments.
- Make beds and keeps residents' rooms tidy and presentable.
- Monitor resident alarm system and takes appropriate action as needed.
- Assist nursing staff as directed to ensure resident and/or family understands applicable policies and procedures for fire evacuation and other life safety emergency plans.
- Assist in onboarding of newly hired CNA's.
- Requisition supplies for individual residents.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school graduate or equivalent is required.
- Possess a current CNA license in Florida.
- Must certify to meeting all criminal background screening requirements of the Affidavit of Compliance approved by the Agency for Healthcare Administration relevant to Florida Statutes, Chapter 435.05 (2) and 408.809 (2) upon hire and thereafter according to current statutes.
- Must have the ability to read, write and speak English and understand verbal and written instructions necessary to properly communicate with residents.
- Long term experience required. Must have a genuine interest caring for elderly residents and compassion for the aging.
- Some basic computer experience is required.
- Must work well in a fast paced environment-the ability to provide information, handle and prioritize a multiplicity of tasks, use good judgment to follow specific instructions carefully and general instructions regarding department procedures. Specifically, the ability to recognize symptoms of adverse reaction to treatment and realize that errors may have serious consequences for residents.
- Should possess initiative and dependability when having direct contact with residents, their families, visitors, physicians, skilled therapists and other staff. Must be courteous, friendly, tactful, helpful, patient, and compassionate. Must also be able to function in a team environment with a hospitality approach to interpersonal communication and respond to emergencies in a direct and decisive manner.
- Must be capable of observing residents close up and at a distance. Must have adequate hearing.
- Moderate to heavy physical effort required during the work shift. Work requires regular lifting on an average of 40 pounds approximately 25 times in an eight hour period with assigned residents and up to 45 times per shift when assisting others. Stands or walks 90% of the work shift. Work requires frequent reaching, pulling, bending, squatting, lifting and working with heavy residents. Must be capable of pushing residents in wheelchairs (up to 250 lbs.). Must be able to lift wheelchair in and out of car. May be required to work in relatively small spaces.
- Works indoor majority of the time. Work in well lighted and ventilated rooms or hallways. During this time, may be exposed to animals as it pertains to resident activities. However, may participate in outdoor functions and walks with residents.
