The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Rescue Coordinator for our South Florida Wildlife Center (SFWC) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The main responsibility of this position is to operate animal rescue vehicles and respond to calls from the public regarding animals in need of assistance.

This position will be responsible for: Operating rescue vehicles in response to calls for assistance; Capturing and confining animals that need to be transported to SFWC in an appropriate, humane and safe manner and admit those animals to SFWC s care; Providing resource information to the public relating to humane resolution of wildlife conflict; Handling public requests for and help organize/participate in community outreach events; Soliciting, accepting and tracking donations from the public; Training , supervising and evaluating ambulance drivers, volunteers, and interns involved in rescue response; Maintaining accurate records and prepare statistical and incidental reports; Performing humane euthanasia for critically injured animals in the field; Maintaining vehicles and equipment in good working order; Conducting tours of the facility, as requested; Assisting with rescue calls and other departments as needed.

Qualifications: High School diploma required; Minimum of three years in the animal care field, particularly with animal handling; Wildlife experience and prior supervisory experience preferred; Familiarity with animal capture equipment (nets, poles, traps), animal handling experience, knowledge of wildlife species identification and safe and humane handling as well as euthanasia certification; Strong communication and organizational skills; Ability to multi-task and prioritize; Strong attention to detail and accuracy with record/database entry; Excellent customer service skills; Ability to lift 50 lbs.

for 25 yards, climb, bend and crawl in confined spaces; Ability to work a flexible schedule; Must have a valid driver s License, a clean driving record and the ability to drive a van safely; Ability to work independently and make quick decisions; Familiarity with state and federal laws pertaining to wildlife; Knowledgeable about the geographic area and comfort with GPS and dispatched directions; Proficient in Disaster Response training in order to assist with any required evacuation/movement of patients; Ability to maintain confidentiality of donor and constituent information, and other sensitive information; Provides day to day oversight of rescue drivers, volunteers and interns; Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
