Early Childhood Development Coordinator


JOB TITLE:  Early Childhood Development Coordinator                                                LOCATION:  ORLANDO

 

DEPARTMENT:   HEAD START *Travel is required in Tri County area

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Provides oversight of Early Childhood Development and Education for the HS/EHS programs.  Assures integration, coordination and accountability to ensure that the children have a safe, nurturing, secure, and quality environment as required in Head Start Performance Standards Subpart B, 1304.21.   Assists with the development and implementation of staff development plans, training, and technical assistance in collaboration with the Program Managers and the Human Resource Generalist.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Communicates and coordinates weekly with the Director and other key management personnel to ensure that program goals and objectives are met. 
  2. Monitors all classroom sites on a regular basis.  Site visits include, but are not limited to, playground safety checks, reviewing classroom folders / anecdotal notes, and conducting classroom observations to assure that the curriculum is being followed. 
  3. Works in concert With the Program Managers and the Education Specialists to coordinate the scheduling and content of Pre-Service, In-Service, and Cluster training, in developing school-year training calendars, and in coordinating individualization for children
  4. Provides direct oversight and assists in the training and technical assistance (T&TA) of the Site Supervisors, teaching teams, including child assessment procedures, such as how to use the GOLD web-based assessment program. 
  5. With the Program Managers and MH/D Specialists, seeks resources and training for instructional personnel that have children with disabilities or challenging behavior.
  6. Obtains and/or maintains the current certification as a CLASS reliable observer.  Conducts regular CLASS observations and uses data to train and develop stronger teaching teams with improved results. Oversees CLASS (Classroom Assessment) training for all applicable personnel.
  7. Develops, maintains, and implements a school readiness plan/goals and a Coaching-Mentoring program for new instructional personnel.
  8. Ensures that Lesson Plans (HS) and Experience Plans (EHS) are reviewed and feedback is provided as necessary to instructional personnel before the plans are used in the classrooms.  Provides input and recommendations when receiving field trip and end of the year requests.
  9. Oversees the planning and all responsibilities required for Head Start to continue being a VPK provider.  Stays aware of all legislative actions and makes necessary changes to stay in compliance.  Ensures all payment paperwork is accurate and submitted timely.
  10. Provides feedback to Site Supervisors to assist them in writing annual Performance Appraisals of the instructional personnel.  Participates in the interview process for instructional personnel applicants.
  11. With the FCP Coordinator, seeks internship programs sponsored by local colleges and universities that offer early childhood development coursework so that students can complete their field work in HS and EHS classrooms.
  12. Provides training to Policy Council in the fall on Creative Curriculum and on the assessment system.
  13. Facilitates the purchase and distribution of classroom equipment, materials, and supplies to meet quality standards.
  14. Updates the 4C HS/EHS Standards and Procedures applicable to early childhood development and education.
  15. Participates in the recruitment of eligible HS or EHS children, including those with disabilities.  Works with other key management and the Director to ensure compliance with the 10% disability requirement.
  16. Seeks In-Kind (donated time, services, products) or cash (grant opportunities, state or local funding).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  Graduation from an accredited university or college with a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field. Three (3) years experience working in the field of Early Childhood Education at the pre-kindergarten level. Two (2) years supervisory/ management experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Knowledge of business and management principles involved in leadership techniques, customer service and the coordination of people and resources. Specific knowledge in Early Childhood Education, behavioral objectives, and writing/ creating curriculum. Ability to operate a personal computer.  Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database software (including but not limited to MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).  Ability to navigate the Internet. Ability to gain knowledge of the Child Plus software application. Ability to demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills to communicate Agency information effectively to other staff and outside representatives and to represent Agency positively in the community. Must be capable of working under pressure while remaining professional, exhibiting an upbeat attitude, and organizing and planning efficiently. Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to select the best solution and solve problems. Ability to supervise others. Ability to train adults. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to understand, process, and facilitate the implementation of the requirements outlined in the HS/EHS Performance Standards and all other applicable laws and regulations. Ability to gain knowledge of the CLASS assessment tool and how to use it to improve program services. Ability to work effectively with children, parents and staff. Ability to demonstrate skills in organization and time management. Ability to work and communicate with people from various multi-cultural backgrounds and socio-economic levels. Sensitivity to the needs, abilities, beliefs, and attitudes of individuals within and outside the Agency, including but not limited to customers and co-workers.
