Position Summary:

The Financial Accountant will be responsible for assisting in the completion of certain functions of the monthly financial reporting package and the monthly close. The position will also be responsible purchase order requests, fixed assets, backup support to Accounts Payable, certain general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, and assisting with budgeting, cash management and cash forecasting. This position will support other functions of the Accounting department when required.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reports – will assist with timely completion of the financial statements, summary reports and schedules for the financial package. 
  • Conduct a thorough review of data against the prior period, budget and forecast.  Investigate material fluctuations and variances.  Prepare written analysis of variances.
  • Board of Directors Meetings – assist with the preparation of Board materials as required. 
  • Prepares monthly statements by collecting data; analyzing and investigating variances; summarizing data, information, and trends.
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual statements by assembling data and in accordance with IFRS.
  • Complies with state and federal tax filing requirements by studying regulations; adhering to requirements; advising management on required actions; calculating quarterly estimated tax payments; assembling data for quarterly and annual tax filings.
  • Responds to financial inquiries by gathering, analyzing, summarizing, and interpreting data.
  • Provides financial advice by studying operational issues; applying financial principles and practices; developing recommendations.
  • Prepares special reports by studying variances; preparing budgets; developing forecasts.
  • Updates job knowledge by keeping current with financial regulations and accepted practices; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Accomplishes finance and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
  • Audit work papers – create the audit work papers including the preparation of the various confirmations, reconciliations and audit related schedules.
  • Annual audit – assist with auditors’ requests such as confirmations, invoice copies, cancelled checks, cash receipts, etc. selected for testing.  Assist the Senior Accounting Manger in ensuring a smooth and efficient audit.
  • Monthly, quarterly, and year reconciliation of balance sheet accounts according to IFRS; including all supporting documentation.
  • Special Projects – timely completion of special projects as assigned by management.
  • Preparation and validation of commissions paid to vendors or employees of Summit Broadband
  • Preparation of all fixed assets including appropriate approvals.
  • Responsible for ensuring general ledger and account code combinations are accurately setup and in alignment with financial reporting.

 

Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, plus 2– 5 years of progressive Accounting experience.

Other Qualifications:

  • Proficient Excel spreadsheet skills required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics SL a plus.
  • Working knowledge of accounting software including GL, A/P, A/R, Fixed Assets, and Inventory modules preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Word and Outlook.  PowerPoint knowledge is a plus.
  • Excellent written, verbal and organization skills required.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background, MVR, and credit check.
  • Team player.
