Job Description

 

SENIOR DIRECTOR, APPLICATIONS

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of thirteen (13) years of progressively responsible experience in systems analysis, design, application integration and programming with emphasis on the integration of enterprise applications. Four (4) of the thirteen (13) years must have been in a leadership capacity, with three (3) of those years as a manager in application development; master’s preferred.
  2. Experience with Agile development methodologies.
  3. Three or more years direct experience leading application development projects.
  4. Experience with ERP and other large information systems; experience with Student Information Systems and Course Management Systems is preferred.
  5. Demonstrated success managing and working with and through people in establishing goals, objectives and action plans to produce expected results.
  6. The incumbent is considered to be “critical personnel” during an emergency and can be subject to being held over or called back to a district location at all times.

JOB GOAL:

To manage and lead the applications staff in planning, prioritization, design, integration, development, enhancement and implementation of enterprise instructional and administrative applications in support of the learning communities, schools and district administrative offices.

SUPERVISES:

Assistant Director, Student Systems; Assistant Director, Business Systems; Assistant Director, Web Services; Enterprise Data Architect

Machines, tools, equipment, electronic devices, vehicles, etc., used in this position. Telephone, Computers, (Personal Computer, Servers, and Cloud environment), Automobile, Multifunction Printer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manifests a professional code of ethics and values.

  • Models the routine, intentional and effective use of technology in daily work, including communications, organization and management tasks.
  • Manage all functions and services within the applications section consistent with district goals.
  • Provide, as requested, expertise and support to the learning communities and the district to meet enterprise applications and computing needs.
  • Develop and provide technology initiatives as deemed necessary for state and federal compliance and school board policy.
  • Direct, manage, lead and evaluate department staff in terms of their performance responsibilities and productivity in achieving the district’s goals.
  • Assist the Chief Information Officer in planning and directing a system of feedback and evaluation of technology support services to determine their responsiveness to the teacher academy, learning communities and schools.
  • Assist the Chief Information Officer in the re-engineering and continuous improvement of OCPS business processes and IT infrastructures to achieve more secure, productive, efficient, and valuable use of information and technology-based instructional and administrative investments within OCPS.
  • Assist the Chief Information Officer in the evaluation, selection, implementation and maintenance of information systems, ensuring appropriate investment in strategic and operational systems.
  • Assist the Chief Information Officer in the development and maintenance of IT policies, procedures and standards relating to the acquisition, implementation, and operation of districtwide information technology.
  • Assist the Chief Information Officer in the development of IT service-level agreements with user organizations and monitor IT application performance to hold IT staff accountable for meeting those service levels.
  • Keep the Chief Information Officer informed about status of projects, issues and incidents in his/her section about which they should be aware.
  • Follow the district’s policies and procedures as related to all HRMD guidelines and the district’s instructional initiatives.
  • Follow the district’s policies and procedures as related to fixed assets.
  • Develop leadership in subordinates.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology and development methodology being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
  • Responsible for maintaining timely and accurate information and accountable for the quality of information maintained by those they supervise.
  • Responsible for self-development and keeping up to date on current research, trends and best practices relevant to the area of responsibility.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

* Essential Performance Responsibilities

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Non-bargaining unite compensation plan, twelve months, 8.0 hours per day

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
