Senior Accountant

The YMCA of Central Florida is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our corporate office accounting team located in downtown Orlando, Florida. The Y of Central Florida is considered a recognized leader within the YMCA national movement, operating over 20 locations, spanning 6 counties, with an annual revenue of approximately $65M.

Under the direction of the Accounting Manager, the incumbent is responsible for managing cash reconciliations, as well as the analysis and review for related revenue and receivable accounts for the organization. This individual must ensure regulatory and GAAP conformity, as well as maintaining, recording, reporting and safeguarding financial data and the organization’s assets. The incumbent should have superior communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and interact with all levels of staff, including senior leadership and external vendors.   

Essential functions

  1. Reconcile cash accounts timely, resolving any variances or discrepancies. Communicate recommendations to supervisor that will resolve root causes.
  2. Collaborate with the IT department and other users to design and develop process improvements and to automate and centralize processes.
  3. Train and develop staff on internal cash handling policies and procedures.
  4. Reconcile and maintain the integrity of the general ledger and subsidiary ledger accounts by gathering, researching and balancing information. Evaluate subsidiary accounts for obvious errors and omissions and enter corrected data into the general ledger.
  5. Prepare assigned audit schedules, account reconciliations, and month-end journal entries.
  6. Collaborate with Director of Financial Operations to create or modify policies and procedures to ensure that the Association’s accounting practices are in compliance and being maintained.
  7. Assist external auditors at year-end by responding to inquiries regarding assigned accounts.
  8. Complete special projects as directed by the Director of Financial Operations.
  9. Recommend, design, and implement any necessary department controls.
  10. Promote and represent the mission and core values of the YMCA of Central Florida in the Family Center and its programs.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in accounting, finance or related field required.
  2. Minimum 5-7 years of experience in a corporate accounting environment, with a concentration in accounts receivable, cash, and revenue reconciliations, required.
  3. Proficiency in computerized accounting systems required; Oracle experience a plus.
  4. Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures, with recent experience in month-end close and assisting with audit schedules.
  5. Microsoft Office proficiency required, including a high level of skill in Excel.
