The Orange County Sheriff's Office in Orlando, Florida invites applicants to apply for the position of IT Specialist II - Information Security Specialist.

JOB SUMMARY:

The IT Specialist II Information Security Specialist is responsible for actively monitoring security threats and risks involving the agency Information Technology (IT) infrastructure.  Working under the direction of the IT Security Manager with oversight and mentoring from the Security Administrator, the Information Security Specialist will be responsible for timely review of security incidents generated by security devices and logs, assessment of the situation, and remediation.  The Information Security Specialist will be required to develop security configurations and perform the installation of software and hardware appliances.

                                                                                                     

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Clean criminal history; any arrest history will be individually evaluated.
  • No illegal drug usage within the past two years, all other usage will be evaluated on an individual basis.
  • Three (3) years of recent progressively responsible networking or computer experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possess understanding of hacker techniques, vulnerabilities, attacks, and countermeasures.
  • Ability to configure and maintain server operating systems and relational databases.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot problems and gather information leading to resolutions.
  • Must possess above average written and oral communication skills when dealing with employees and external customers/clients.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver’s license. Must attend and successfully complete the agency sponsored Law Enforcement Vehicle Operations (LEVO) Training, if assignment includes driving an agency vehicle. Use of an agency vehicle would require appropriate driving history and passing agency biennial driver’s physical exam.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, citizens, and the general public.
  • Candidate must hold or acquire within a year of employment one of the following certifications: CEH, CISSP, CCNA, GSEC, SCCP, OSCP, CFCE, Security+
  • Ability to perform maintenance and operate information security systems and tools.
  • Must be able to assist in the development, review and maintenance of security standards, procedures and documentation based on best practices.
  • Must be able to provide security support for application and infrastructure-related projects.
  • Must be able to configure, adjust and report user access and permissions.
  • Must be able to conduct vulnerability scans, risk analysis, identification and evaluation of mitigation strategies.
  • Must be able to prepare reports documenting security incidents.
  • Must be able to research and report latest information technology security trends and tools.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required sit and work on the computer for long periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or use hands to handle or feel. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may have to assist someone lifting up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee will be working with computer related equipment and may occasionally be exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
  • Depending on assignment, may be required to occasionally work evenings and/or weekends. The employee is required to support the agency’s emergency operations during a critical incident and may be recalled. The employee may also be assigned to a technical team in order to support the agency during a critical incident.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate or Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.

ADDITIONAL PROCESSING:

  • Phone interview, if selected.
  • Participate in basic skills test, if successful passing of phone interview
  • Panel Interview, if successful completion of basic skills tests
  • Must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.

SALARY:  $19.64 or $20.23 with 3 years of experience. (Note: salary may be adjusted depending on experience)
