Information Transport Systems Technician

Job Description

The Information Transport Systems Technician is responsible for organizing, supervising and directing the work of the assigned job crew(s) performing telecommunications work.  The individual will organize and control the preparation and execution of premise distributions systems to meet company objectives of cost, quality and equipment conservation; as well as have profit and loss responsibilities for projects under supervision. 

What you’ll do:

  • Plan, organize and direct the work of job crew employees on a daily basis.
  • Assess, complete and conduct employee evaluations.
  • Motivate employees on a regular basis.
  • Maintain thorough familiarity with plans, specifications and job contract scope.
  • Monitor and manage tool, equipment and material inventory of Service Vehicle or project.
  • Monitor the work to ensure that the workmanship is completed in accordance with BICSI EIA/TIA standards and Local and National Electrical Code requirements.
  • Establish good relationship with the client. 
  • Obtain acceptance and approval of completed work.
  • Provide technical assistance, i.e., interpretation of drawings, recommending construction methods and equipment, etc., as required.
  • Ensure that area where service work is performed is properly restored to normal and clean conditions when work is complete.
  • Order materials and request manpower as needed. 
  • Monitor, track and approve employee work time as necessary.
  • Ensure that all personnel under supervision are working in compliance with safety procedures. 
  • Document violations; notify Safety Director, recommend/implement corrective actions as required.
  • Coordinate manpower. 
  • Attend job scheduling and coordination meetings.
  • Understand job costing and project financial reports.
  • Maintain project look-ahead schedules for manpower and materials.
  • Proficient in performing telecommunications installations    
  • Be familiar with policies and procedures relating to the position of Job Superintendent.
  • Perform the installation, terminating, labeling, testing, and troubleshooting of voice, data, and fiber optic premise distribution systems

What you’ll need to be successful:

  • A passion for learning and the drive to succeed
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Premise Distribution Systems Technician
  • Advanced working knowledge of the BICSI EIA/TIA installation standards and the National Electrical Code (Certification preferred)
  • Able to pull Backbone Cable (UTP/ScTP/STP-A/Fiber Optic) and Horizontal Cable (UTP/ScTP/STP-A/Fiber Optic)
  • Able to install Cable Support Systems such as cable trays, ladder racks, J-hooks, bridle/D-rings.
  • Able to troubleshoot premise distribution systems and all associated electronic equipment.
  • Proven ability to layout a project, which includes the ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Strong working knowledge of construction, electrical work, and other systems
  • Must have the ability to speak knowledgably about our services and make appropriate recommendations
  • Must have selling abilities to act upon additional work opportunities and recommend preventative maintenance or necessary repairs to client.  
  • Must have basic computer skills while being proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. 
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have the ability to read, write and communicate effectively in the English Language at a minimum 12th grade level in order to communicate job requirements and safety standards to the assigned job crew  
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License
