The Orange County Sheriff's Office in Orlando, Florida invites applicants to apply for the position of Deputy - School Resource Officer (Full-time).

Job Summary:

The incumbent in this position must be committed to being involved with children in Orange County public schools or community based programs.  The incumbent in this position is also responsible for working with the school principal, teachers, and staff to assist in the development of plans and strategies to prevent and/or minimize dangerous situations. They are also responsible for providing presentations to groups, especially in a classroom setting. The incumbent is required to engage in the pursuit, apprehension, and arrest of law violators or suspected law violators, if observed or when assistance is requested from dispatch or other deputy sheriffs. Deputy Sheriffs are responsible for the protection of life and property and the enforcement of laws and regulations. This work involves an element of personal danger and frequent contact with the public during routine and emergency situations.

Minimum Qualilfications & Abilities:

Certified:  Must have successfully completed the Florida Law Enforcement Officer Certification   or Equivalency of Training from a Florida law enforcement academy.  You must achieve a passing score on the Florida law enforcement certification exam, possess a good work history, must have a clean background, and a good driving history. 

  • Must have two (2) years continuous law enforcement experience at the same agency with at least one (1) year in uniform patrol -OR- two (2) years continuous law enforcement SRO experience -OR- two (2) years continuous service as an Orange County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Deputy II. 
    Exclusions: Prison, Corrections, and Court Services Experience. Military and Federal Law Enforcement will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
  • High School or GED diploma (will not accept a certificate of completion)
  • At least 20 years of age
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Valid driver’s license for the last year and have no more than two moving violations over the past three years. Other driving history will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
  • No DUI convictions for the past 5 years. Other driving history will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony.
  • Must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving moral character, false statements, perjury or domestic violence.
  • Must not have received a dishonorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces
  • No illegal drug usage within the past three years. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
  • Good physical condition
  • Vision of 20/40 corrected or better
  • Applicants with body ornamentation (tattoos) shall not have any visible body ornamentation on the head, face, and neck area, which includes the visible skin while wearing a collared uniform shirt with an unbuttoned top button.  Employees shall not have any visible body ornamentation located on the hands which is defined as the area from wrist to fingertips; however, a tattoo simulating a wedding ring on the ring finger of the left hand will not be considered excessive as described herein.  Applicants are encouraged to read the agency body ornamentation policy before applying.

All candidates for SRO positions will participate in the following steps:

  • Psychological Evaluation (after conditional job offer)
  • Sign an SRO Contract committing to a minimum of two (2) years of service as an SRO

Detailed Salary Information: Starting Pay

Candidates with less than 4 years law enforcement experience: $46,009.60

Candidates with 4 years of full-time law enforcement experience: $49,233.60

Additional Salary Benefits:

  • Signing Allowance - Candidates with 2 years continuous full-time law enforcement uniform patrol experience and Florida certified will receive a $2,500 signing allowance. 
    Exemptions: prior/current Orange County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sheriff, prior/current Reserve Deputy II, and Orange County Sheriff’s Office employee reclassifications.
  • Candidates with a 2 year degree from an accredited school will receive $13.85 bi-weekly
  • Candidates with a 4 year degree or higher from an accredited school will receive $36.92 bi-weekly
