SUMMARY

The Major Gift Officer cultivates relationships with an assigned caseload comprised of current and prospective major donors to raise large gifts for the ministry. The Major Gift Officer works to connect qualified ministry partner’s giving passions with appropriate ministry opportunities to inspire ongoing prayerful and financial engagement in the mission of Cru.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

As an employee with Cru:

  • Consistently attend and participate in team/ministry devotional times.

FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Manage an assigned caseload to build and deepen relationships with both current and prospective major gift ministry partners.  Grow the caseload by removing unqualified individuals and adding new ones who are aligned with the ministry’s goals.
  • Build relationships with donors via phone and in-person visits to encourage greater levels of involvement and giving each successive year.
  • Present vision, giving opportunities, and ministry project outcomes to ministry partners of high net worth.
  • Design a personalized 12-month MOVES strategy for assigned caseload and then execute the strategy.
  • Adhere to the agreement listed in the Development Professional's Handbook.
  • Meet all productivity standards including the annual appointment goal set by the Executive Director.
  • Work with the Executive Director to prepare and work within approved budgets.

OTHER FUNCTIONS (Non-essential)

  • Prepare and submit expense reports on time and according to ministry guidelines.
  • Participate in ongoing development and other professional growth education including ongoing training and education of Cru ministry software and systems.
  • Demonstrate and model personal spiritual discipline and assist in development of an environment on the team where individual team members grow in their own Christian walks.
  • Personal development - engage in the Staff Development process including creating and implementing a Personal Development Plan (PDP) targeting areas of growth
  • Perform related duties or special projects as assigned

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Cru donor policies and procedures.
  • Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
  • Current technology including, but not limited to, the ability to use current operating systems.
  • Current technology including (but not limited to): An intermediate knowledge of the following applications. Google: Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Drive, Video calls, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Maps, and Hangouts, or Microsoft Office applications.

ABILITY TO:

  • Operate with tact and be personable.  
  • Diplomatically coordinate and form relationships with representatives and leaders of other ministries within Cru in order to care for and serve ministry partners with excellence.
  • Be development-ministry minded.
  • Learn how to identify and refer ministry partners with planned giving needs.
  • Possess a high level of verbal and written communication skills necessary to make face-to-face ministry project presentations
  • Develop and edit written correspondence and other documents.
  • Work efficiently with a team as well as independently.  
  • Meet challenges with resourcefulness and ingenuity.
  • Be goal and task oriented and able to meet deadlines.  
  • Be a motivated self-starter who is can work alone without close, direct supervision.
  • Effectively manage time whether on or off the road.  
  • Demonstrate honesty, trustworthiness, initiative, creativity, determination, diligence, and dependability.
  • Uphold the Evangelical Council of Financial Accountability standards (ECFA).
  • Travel up to 30% a year within the assigned territory to visit with ministry partners and prospects.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Plus 3 to 5 years of experience in non-profit fundraising or a related field (sales, insurance, investing, financial service markets, etc.)
  • Experience working with high net worth individuals, doing public speaking, and networking are preferred
  • Combination of education and experience will be considered
