The YMCA of Central Florida is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our corporate office team located in downtown Orlando, Florida. The ideal candidate has 2–3 years of relevant professional Accounting experience in a similar sized organization. The Y of Central Florida is a recognized leader within the YMCA national movement, operating over 20 locations, spanning six counties, with an annual revenue of approximately $65M.

Under the direction of the Accounting Manager, the incumbent is responsible for various account reconciliations, as well as the analysis and review for related revenue and expense accounts for the organization. This individual must ensure regulatory and GAAP conformity, as well as maintaining, recording, reporting and safeguarding financial data and the organization’s assets. The incumbent should have great communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and interact with all levels of staff, leadership and external vendors.   

Essential functions

  1. Detailed tracking and reconciliation of Capital expenditures for association.  This includes recording monthly depreciation as well as tracking all acquisitions and disposals in accordance to capital policies and fixed asset sub ledger.
  2. Reconcile and maintain the integrity of the general ledger and subsidiary ledger accounts by gathering, researching and balancing information. Evaluate subsidiary accounts for obvious errors and omissions and enter corrected data into the general ledger.
  3. Prepare assigned audit schedules, account reconciliations, and month-end journal entries.
  4. Preparation of internal and external financial reporting for month-end closes.
  5. Assist external auditors at year-end by responding to inquiries regarding assigned accounts.
  6. Complete special projects as directed by the Accounting Manager or Vice President of Accounting.
  7. Recommend and design any necessary department controls.
  8. Promote and represent the mission and core values of the YMCA of Central Florida in the Family Center and its programs.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in accounting, finance or related field required.
  2. Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a corporate accounting environment, with a concentration in accounts receivable, cash, and revenue reconciliations, required.
  3. Proficiency in computerized accounting systems required; Oracle experience a plus.
  4. Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures, with recent experience in month-end close and assisting with audit schedules.
  5. Microsoft Office proficiency required, including a high level of skill in Excel.
