Sanitation Driver

Skilled work in the care and operation of a fully automated refuse collection, recycling and/or clam trucks which is used to collect refuse and trash from residences and to a lesser extent, businesses.  Work is performed under the supervision of the Sanitation Chief.

These job functions are not to be construed as a complete statement of all duties performed.  Employees may be assigned additional duties by management as deemed necessary.

• Drives, operates, lifts and dumps refuse containers into refuse collection vehicle
• Loads and empties garbage cans and trash (limbs, leaves, grass, etc.) into sanitation truck
• Uses pitch forks, shovels and similar hand tools to pick up general refuse and trash from curbside and other areas
• Exercises appropriate safety precautions while vehicle is in operation
• Completes designated refuse collection route
• Judges heights and distances while truck is in operation
• Performs daily inspection of vehicle.  Cleans vehicle and performs preventative maintenance tasks                                       
• May be placed on emergency call outs

An equivalent combination of higher education and experience may be considered, provided that the education and experience is in a relevant and related field.

High School Diploma or GED
Experience in heavy manual labor and at least one (1) year in light equipment driving experience.

Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations:

Must possess a valid Class "B" Commercial Florida Drivers License with air brake endorsement.

Continual light work and occasional heavy work. Requires frequent walking and standing, climbing, stooping, reaching, bending, good finger/hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination, good eyesight, hearing and speech, and regular driving of vehicle. Must be able to wear PPE.

Environmental Conditions
Works outside that could be in adverse environmental conditions (e.g., heat, cold, and rain) for moderate periods of time and exposure to traffic and moving machinery.
