POSITION SUMMARY:       

Perform duties to provide routine health and safety inspections for all public swimming pools in the District, to enforce compliance with Florida Administrative Code. Perform pool construction inspections to confirm compliance with the EPCOT codes, and state codes, laws, and regulations, guided by the precedent and working within the limits of established policies.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:            

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required except anyone meeting the definition of “qualified staff” as determined by the Florida Department of Health and who is acceptable to the FDOH shall be deemed as qualified for this position.
  • Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facilities Operator Certification required (must obtain within 6 months of hire as a condition of continued employment).
  • Five years of additional experience in related position required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspect all public pools in the District for health and safety. Confirm pools are compliant with EPCOT Codes, state codes, laws, and regulations including the Florida Administrative Codes. Maintain records of inspections results in the Department of Health database. Create and administer correction notices and/or shut down pools if not compliant with the regulations.
  • Investigate swimming pool complaints and report results to the Department of Health.
  • Monitor bacteriological data for the public bathing places.
  • Inspect swimming pools during various stages of construction and remodeling to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances and regulations.
  • Examine plans and specifications of new construction, additions and alterations for public swimming pools in the District to determine compliance with the provisions of applicable construction codes, ordinances and regulations.
  • Issue operating licenses for compliant swimming pools within the District.
  • Confer with architects, contractors, builders and the general public in the field and office; explain and interpret building requirements and restrictions.
  • Participate in Annual Emergency Power Tests. Compile appropriate reports related to the testing.
  • Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements.
  • Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, and policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

COMPETENCY:

  • Strong interpersonal skills required.
  • Has ability to operate Environmental Health Data base and Excel programs.
  • Has ability to interpret and apply pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations.
  • Knowledge of bacteriological report analyzing.
  • Florida Driver License with insurability required.

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a valid Florida State Driver's license and maintain eligibility under the District's commercial vehicle program.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While engaging in the duties of this position the Employee performs lifting and/or carrying of up to 25 lbs. Employee sits frequently. Employee stands occasionally and walks on varied surfaces frequently. Employee frequently bends/stoops/crouches, climb/balances. Employee occasionally pushes/pulls, kneels and crawls. Employee uses their hand(s)/arm(s) to reach in any direction and seize, grasp, hold and turn object using hand(s). Employee uses fingers, versus whole hand, to pick, pinch and feel objects. Employee sees, talk and hear as they communicate with others in person, electronically, by phone or radio. Visual functions include near and far acuity, the ability to identify and distinguish colors and requires adjustment of the lens of the eye to bring an object into sharp focus,

Employee will operate motor vehicle(s) that involve the use of hand/foot controls.

Annual Emergency Power Test Inspections performed (a minimum of 15 times a year) require constant walking throughout entire shift.

PAY:      Wage ranges between $987 and $1316 per week. Up to 34 paid days off annually, FRS pension, great medical, fitness center access, perks and more.
