AR Insurance Financial Counselor

POSITION: AR Financial Counselor

RESPONSIBLE TO: AR Supervisor and AR Director

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for collecting outstanding insurance balances from various payers. Following up with insurance balances; analyzing denial trends and coding edits.  Understand complex medical insurance plan terminology and appeal denied claims.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma required
  • Strong accounting computer skills required
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT codes preferred

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Two plus years’ experience in accounting ,data entry or medical collections
  • Proficient using email and word processing software
  • Knowledge of practice management and electronic health record software
  • Ability to perform multiple and diverse tasks simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and cheerful attitude

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

    AR Financial Counselor

  • Review assigned queues and analyze accounts
  • Communicate with patients and insurance carriers on outstanding AR matters
  • Understand how to interpret eligibility and coverage for a procedure using an online application or the telephone
  • Review daily AR reports and identify and fix errors
  • Process credit card transactions
  • Complete contractual adjustment and payments
  • Review and complete incoming correspondence timely
  • Repost charges, adjustment and payments on account
  • Complete appeal process based on individual insurance guidelines
  • Generate and monitor daily audit journals for errors
  • Maintain current fee schedule by assigned queue
  • Research insurance credit balance and follow refund policies

    General Administration

  • Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of insurance denials and trends in the industry
  • Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management, electronic health record and other computer software as it relates to job functions
  • Attends continuing education courses as requested
  • Completes all other duties as assigned by the AR Supervisor
  • Work hours coincide with Orlando Orthopaedic Center’s operating hours (8am to 5pm)

    Typical Physical Demands

    Work may require sitting for long periods of time, and also stooping, bending and stretching for files and supplies.  Position requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, operate a computer, telephone, calculator, copier, and such other office equipment as necessary.  Position also requires viewing computer screens and typing for long periods of time, and working in an environment which may be stressful.  Position could require occasional travel.
