Insurance holdings company located is looking for a litigation specialist in personal lines property in either Fairfield , CA or Tallahassee, FL

Summary This position is responsible for assisting with the development of the Company and department litigation strategies and handling to conclusion complex liability and litigated claim files. Other functions include providing day-to-day mentoring, technical guidance and training to other claim handlers. Reports to the Litigation Manager or Director of Claims. Essential Functions

Using best claim practices, investigate, evaluate, reserve, and settle claims within scope of authority, workload guidelines, time and service standards.

Working knowledge of applicable coverages and coverage issues and ability to properly analyze complex coverage issues and prepare coverage letters.

Responsible for claims in multiple jurisdictions including litigated files. Requires understanding of different jurisdictional laws/issues.

Able to effectively evaluate, negotiate and settle large and complex claims of varying degrees and claim types with both claimants and attorneys.

Timely and accurately set loss reserves and expenses and effectively manage loss adjustment expense Identify and investigate for possible fraud, contribution, recovery and vendor management opportunities to reduce total claim cost.

Accurately and appropriately document and diary files as required by the best practices, the claim manager and regulatory agencies.

May provide day-to-day mentoring/technical guidance, education and training to other claim handlers on an as needed basis.

Participate in the development of Company and department litigation strategy.

Ability to recognize problematic claim files and develop appropriate strategy with an eye toward litigation avoidance and/or appropriate resolution.

Effectively manage and control overall loss adjustment expenses, (ALE and ULE), through proper selection and utilization of cost effective vendors and available resources, internal and external.

Actively participates in CAT planning, management and resolution of CAT claims. Additional Responsibilities

Through constant monitoring and analysis, responsible for researching and keeping current to changes in jurisdictional issues as well as staying abreast of industry trends, legislative and legal climates, and to disseminate this information as appropriate.

Attend mediations and/or settlement conferences when needed.

Provide back up for Claim Manager or supervisor as needed.

Collaborates effectively with claim management staff, and other Company departments in handling litigation and shared issues to resolve and effect positive change.

May perform other related duties and special projects as assigned or requested. Minimum Requirements Education, training, and experience:

College graduate and/or equivalent combination of High School Diploma/GED, training and work experience preferred.

Must possess strong legal and technical claims knowledge in area of liability claims.

5-10 years of previous claim handling experience required, of which at least 2 years must be Personal Lines Property or General Liability claim handling experience.

Litigation Management and First Party Property experience preferred.

Professional insurance designation preferred, (INS, CIC, AIC, CPCU, AEI, etc).

Must be able to obtain state adjuster licensing in applicable states within 120 days of employment and maintain licensing requirements as a requirement of continued employment. Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Requires knowledge and understanding of tort liability issues and multiple jurisdictional laws/issues including a working knowledge of the legal system as it applies to claim handling.

Self-directed and ability to effectively prioritize/organize.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy, able to prioritize effectively and meet deadlines.

Must be able to work well with external and internal customers with tact and diplomacy.
