Job Title:           Accounting Specialist

Department:    Finance

Reports To:      Chief Financial Officer             

OVERVIEW/POSITION PURPOSE:

Under limited supervision, performs a variety of accounting tasks and functions in compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards.  Specifically, the position is responsible for the timely and accurate recording of revenues cash receipts, and other general accounting entries.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Day to Day Financial

  • Monitors assigned applications and determine appropriate next steps
  • Process accounts, payments and/or invoices in compliance with financial policies and procedures
  • Maintains various database systems
  • Transfers data between systems as needed

Monthly Closings

  • Perform reconciliations of accounts
  • Utilize various applications/systems to prepare financial spreadsheets
  • Create journal entries
  • Create reports for financial statements
  • Create monthly reports for department managers

All other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS BEYOND NORMAL OFFICE ENVIRONMENT:

  • Regularly required to walk, stand, bend, crouch, balance, use hands and arms
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. unaided
  • Ability to work for extended periods in an office environment
  • Flexible schedule to include rotating schedules, nights, weekends and/or extended hours of work

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Working knowledge of accounting and business practice
  • Effective computer skills to perform accounting tasks
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Outlook and Word
  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, filter, v-look ups, graphs, etc.
  • Ability to speak, read and write English to communicate with donors and vendors
  • Ability to operate a variety of office machines
  • Have good organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Demonstrated experience to deliver exceptional customer service
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting (or equivalent work experience)
  • Three to five years of related business experience in accounting and/or finance
