NETWORK ENGINEER

Under the leadership and direction of the Information Technology Operations Manager, the incumbent will enhance our network (Guest Wi-Fi, Corporate Wi-Fi, WAN/LAN, VPN, cloud, and voice), design and build out new networks, and monitor network performance and security. This individual will identify and implement network security solutions, conduct regular testing of our network, and perform vulnerability assessments.  S/he manages vendors that provide services for network, managing networking components for construction and infrastructure projects, and manages the network expenses. This position is responsible for protecting our information assets while providing a stable voice and data infrastructure for which our staff and customers can conduct business.

Essential Functions

  1. Plan and design infrastructure strategy, network solutions, architecture, and roadmap
  2. Document requirements for enhanced networks.
  3. Design, draft drawings, component list, pricing, and itemized services.
  4. Manage and negotiate favorable network, equipment, voice and infrastructure service contracts
  5. Maintain the associations Disaster Recovery Plans as it pertains to voice and data networks
  6. Project manage the installation of new network services, and equipment.
  7. Manage expenses inline with budget for network.
  8. Order new data and voice services from providers, e.g. ATT or Spectrum.
  9. Monitor network performance.
  10. Walk-though buildings and inspect cables and connections, test network equipment and services, troubleshoot and repair.
  11. Manage and secure connections to cloud applications.
  12. Diagnose and remediate network performance falling below SLAs.
  13. Inspect, install and configure network equipment, cables, and connectors.
  14. Maintain warranties on equipment.
  15. Resolve open tickets assigned, typically data, voice, and equipment related.
  16. Monitor telecommunication expenditures, audit invoices, dispute bills as required, and provide direction on IT-Telecommunication financials. 
  17. Manage service disputes and SLAs with service providers.
  18. Configure and deploy network security solutions
  19. Monitor logs and output from security solutions in collaboration with IT Operations.
  20. Analyze and report on security intrusions, virus, attempts, blocks, and overall health of our day to day security.
  21. Ensure Antivirus and Firewall is up to date and running for endpoint security
  22. Patch applications, firmware, and operating systems on endpoints

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in information technology or other technical related field.
  2. Minimum five plus years’ experience in the networking field.
  3. Network certifications or equivalent: Network+, CCNA, CCNA-Voice, CCNA-Security.
  4. Information Security certifications or equivalent is a plus: Associate of (ISC)2, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator: Security. CISSP a plus.
  5. Extensive hands-on technical knowledge of network systems, protocols, and standards such as Ethernet, LAN, WAN, MPLS, xDSL (Uverse / Smart City), TCP/IP, ATM, T1/PRI (voice at Metro), SIP Truncking, 802.11x, SD-WAN (netbond), Wi-Fi solutions.
  6. Strong knowledge of network systems, Wi-Fi systems, telecommunications services, telephony, ASA firewalls, Next Generation Firewalls, Meraki, Avaya / Nortel phone systems, enterprise monitoring and analysis tools, including Probes, Wireshark, Post Scanners, command lines, and scripting.
  7. Strong knowledge of client/server, cloud, SAAS, IAAS, and interoperability between them.
  8. Ability to create files in MS Visio, MS Project, MS Excel.
  9. Ability to read blueprints.

Working Conditions

  1. Ability to work in excess of a 40-hour week with irregular work hours.
  2. Must be able to work an on-call schedule rotation as required, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  3. Must be willing to travel within Central Florida. Must have a valid Florida driver license.
  4. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment
  5. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
