Overview
The Nurse Practitioner at Orange County Health Services-Corrections provides general medical care and treatment to inmates at the Orange County Correctional facility within the scope of their license and under the supervision of a licensed physician. This is a regular full time position. These positions will require late shifts, and weekend coverage. Must possess and maintain State of Florida licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in accordance with Florida State Statute 464.
Representative Duties
- Performs physical examinations and preventive health measures within the scope of their license and under the direction of a physician. Orders, interprets and evaluates diagnostic test to identify and assess patient’s clinical problems and health care needs. Records physical findings and formulates plan and prognosis, based on patient’s condition.
- Discusses case with physician and other health professionals to prepare a comprehensive patient care plan. Submits the health care plans and goals of individual patients for periodic review and evaluation by physician.
- Prescribes drugs or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, or related therapeutic procedures. Refers patients to physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment.
- Becomes actively involved in the Quality Assurance/Risk Management/Infection Control/Utilization Management Program.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Medicine and two years of experience as a fully licensed Registered Nurse Practitioner, working either at a clinic, health center or public health agency.
Preferences
Must be able to use IV infusion pump.
Experience with Correctional health care.
Basic computer and office equipment knowledge.
Proficiency in basic procedures such as suturing, splint applications and I&D of abscesses.
