UCF Facilities Operations is seeking well-qualified candidates to apply for the role of Plumber III. Duties of this position include but are not limited to:
 

  • Perform planned scheduled work or as assigned by the supervisor defined as preventive maintenance (PM)/predictive maintenance (PDM) geared toward pro-actively identifying potential failures or preventing failures.
  • Conduct PM repair (PMR) which are repairs of defects found during a (PM or PDM). Conduct corrective repairs in reaction to a user reporting issues to restore functionality. Planned work can be identified as part of the following skilled trades: heating, and plumbing.
  • Installs, maintains, tests, and calibrates plumbing components connected with water, gas, air, and sewer systems for bathrooms, laboratories, and kitchens. Maintain equipment related to minor and major plumbing configurations. Maintains Med gas and gas piping systems. Operate pumps, faucets, steam traps, valve traps, pipes, water heaters, and emergency showers.
  • Operate video equipment to monitor and troubleshoot sewage systems. Locate and correct plumbing failures and malfunctions, maintains, installs, and repair backflow preventers, make emergency plumbing repairs.
  • Perform support work by assisting with work done by central shops, contractors, other zones and departments, or events on campus. Perform routine plumbing work defined as recurring work that has no specific frequency and remains open for an explicit amount of time. Perform project work defined as work performed in conjunction with Facilities Improvement programs, Capital Improvement programs, or work that result in an upgrade to the facilities.
  • Fulfill all work requests as assigned through the work order system. Perform all routine tasks as identified in the worker class specification. Complete work orders in a timely manner. Record labor hours, action code, shop stock, and trade notes. Indicate in the trade notes work performed, any special conditions or situation that requires further attention. Report to the supervisor any condition needing attention. Change the work order status.
  • Report any deficiencies such as maintenance, health, and sanitation. Support all university, local, state, and federal guidelines, regulations, and policies, etc. Assist with inventory control and security. Participate in all required safety classes. Collaboration with other campus departments.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned. May be asked to assist other Facilities Operations areas in times of personnel shortages or emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

Licensed as a plumber in the State of Florida and 4 years of relevant experience. The UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of plumbing trades classifications and functions including tools, materials, and task-specific sequencing required for maintenance, sanitation, and repairs.
  • Strong communication skills in order to work effectively with customers and team members, operate and interpret the functions of the electronic equipment (iPod Touch for AiM PM checkpoints), comprehend standard safety procedures, and utilize telecommunication devices.
  • Ability to understand and apply all standard guidelines and work processes to work planning and scheduling
  • Ability to use various computer programs including and/or equivalent to Microsoft Office and the CMMS.
  • Ability to delegate, train, coach, lead, motivate, and ensure cohesiveness in a diverse work environment as well as comprehend reports, inspections, and documentation pertinent to the unit.
  • Ability to assess material needs, order, and sustain accurate and sufficient inventories.
  • Flexible for utilization by trade with most urgent requirements.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to use various electrical meters and construct and install power supplies.
