Under general supervision, the Network Engineer IV position oversees the purchase, installation, and support of network communications, including wireless systems. Primarily responsible for all aspects of wireless hardware from the controller to AP, including surveying, documentation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and change control. Performs network design, budgeting, system installation, system administration, and system security. Builds and maintains the wireless systems and integrates with all university enterprise systems.

Additional job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
 

  • Provides the most advanced level of network design, installation, and troubleshooting for the University's enterprise and wireless network. Must be able to solve complex networking issues through physical and logical investigation.
  • Ability to design, document, estimate, configure and install complex wireless network topologies. Ability to complete tasks on Wireless Access Points, and controller configurations.
  • Ability to work within a Telecom Enterprise Management software application (Service Now and Pinnacle) to receive, document, respond and record various trouble tickets and service requests.
  • Ability to work directly with manufacture escalation services TAC, process RMA's, and communicate effectively with UCF IT Telecommunications management and UCF customers.
  • Will provide the highest level of networking instruction and mentoring for the Technical Operations team members. Will assist other team members with tickets, projects, documentation, and escalation.
  • Utilizes network software to effectively monitor overall network health, utilization, potential issues. Based on system information provides status reports and solutions to current or future network issues.
  • Follows Standard Operating Procedures as determined by the specific subgroup within the department. This includes work-order/ ticket flows, documentation, outage communication, and customer interactions.
  • Attends various seminars, training, and conferences related to current or emerging technology. Will be given various opportunities to obtain certifications based on specific training.
  • Other duties as assigned, include availability for conferences and training which may require multiple evenings out of town.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience working with wireless surveying equipment.
  • Knowledge of Cisco Prime, Ekahau surveying software, and general Radio Frequency (RF) properties.
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) and/or Certified Wireless Network Associate CWNA.
