Full-Time Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

MAJOR FUNCTION

Responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of the Fire Rescue Division warehouse, including an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) section, under the direction of management. Accountable for the efficient and effective management of inventory, ordering, receiving, storing, delivery and distribution of equipment and supplies. May also supervise shipment loading & transferring, and maintains records of documents by entering data into the various computer and inventory systems.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

Manages the overall operation of equipping EMS units and Fire Stations with necessary operating supplies.

Ensures compliance with federal, state and local procurement, warehousing, material handling, shipping requirements, storage, and distribution of medications, including controlled substances identified by DEA (drug enforcement agency); advises management on needed actions.

Purchases needed goods and supplies through a variety of sources, including local merchants and contracted vendors.

Identifies appropriate solutions and equipment for a vast array of requests in a timely and cost effective manner, and within budget guidelines.

Establishes and monitors warehouse security procedures and protocols to ensure appropriate  security of all warehouse equipment and supplies. Controls and maintains appropriate inventory levels, especially of critical supplies.

  Achieves financial objectives by following budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions. Ensures ongoing cost controls and reductions in all aspects of warehouse transactions and activities.

Completes warehouse operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees and following up in work results. Conducts daily time and attendance scheduling and reporting.

Maintains staff efficiencies by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees as needed, and planning, monitoring, and apprising job results.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS

Knowledge of the principles and practices of management of employees to include evaluations, counseling and discipline.. Knowledge and ability to use computer databases and inventory control programs, including Oracle ERP. Knowledge of procurement policies, procedures, and practices.

Ability to use Internet and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to lead assigned employees, work with others, and promote teamwork and cooperation. Ability to learn and comply with the Board of County Commissioners Procurement rules and practices. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, both manually and using a calculator or computing device. Ability and agility to perform various labor tasks in all weather conditions. Ability to walk, bend, stoop, sit, stand, crouch, and kneel. Ability to ambulate independently. Ability to lift and move materials/equipment that may weigh up to fifty (50) pounds.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate of an accredited two (2) year college or university with major course work in logistics, supply chain management, public administration, business administration, fire rescue, or related field. At least five (5) years of related training and/or field experience as a firefighter, EMT or paramedic may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to secure a valid Florida driver’s license at the time of employment within this classification.

Must obtain and maintain Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Awareness certification through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and maintain throughout employment in this position.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have a home telephone while employed with the Fire Rescue Division as employee is subject to being called for emergencies.

Employee is required to carry and answer county provided cell phone while on or off duty

This position will be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.

SPECIAL PREFERENCES

Candidate with at least 10 years’ experience as a Firefighter, EMT or Paramedic.

Knowledge of supply chain management.

Experience with Oracle ERP. 

Procurement experience.

Knowledge of commonly used equipment and supplies in the Fire and Emergency Medical Service industry.
