The Opportunity:   

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Human Resources and as a member of the HR leadership team, this position, through the engagement of key stakeholders, will create, implement, and administer a multi-layered total rewards philosophy and program that supports UCF's mission and objectives to attract, engage and retain talented employees. This position requires strategic thinking and vision to lead the organization forward and create policies and procedures that support daily needs. As a functional leader, you will ensure industry and market competitive program design, legal compliance, and cost-effectiveness. Over time this role will evaluate customer feedback, service metrics, and ensure the overall strategy and design are continuously optimized for supporting the colleges and divisions. 

Responsibilities:   

Strategy/Total Rewards Expertise:  

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and own the total rewards philosophy and approach.  

  • Leverage knowledge of market conditions and competitive talent landscape to design tailored strategies for compensation concerning key talent segments.  

  • Collaborate with external benefits and compensation advisors to stay abreast of emerging trends and proactively put forward recommendations that enable UCF to be competitive and resourceful in our total rewards programs.  

  • Team with other HR subject matter experts and campus partners on employee experience, engagement, and success initiatives to attract and retain employees and help UCF become an employer of choice.  

  • Through communication and education, drive organization-wide understanding of UCF's total rewards programs.  

  • Develop and deliver communications that help our employees appreciate and value their total compensation package benefits, base, bonus, equity, time off, etc., through total rewards statements and materials.  

  • Keep abreast of legislation and best practices in all reward areas (retirement plans, benefits, healthcare, equity plans, administration, FLSA, etc.). Ensure that all programs are compliant with applicable laws and regulations.  

  • Create and sustain an inclusive culture that encourages feedback and recognizes the need for consistent, transparent communication using multiple approaches with internal and external stakeholders.

Leadership/Supervisory:  

  • Direct, develop and manage the total rewards function, including all compensation, classification, workforce planning, career pathing, benefits, and leave programs, ensuring excellent offerings and timely service delivery to the campus community.  

  • Lead, manage and administer the compensation and benefits and leave functions to ensure compensation, equity, bonus programs, recognition, leave, and health and wellness benefits are competitive, valued, and aligned with UCF business strategy and financial plans.  

  • Ensure delivery of job leveling, salary surveys, and market analysis to make comprehensive recommendations.  

  • Ensure HRBCs and Central staff are provided timely training and information to assist them in performing their duties accurately and within UCF policies, regulations, and federal and state laws.  

  • Oversee modeling, costing of base salary, statistical analysis, and incentive and equity programs and provide data and analysis on outcomes and gaps.  

  • Build internal tools and resources for leadership and team members to manage compensation decisions.  

  • Hire, supervise, develop, and retain a high-performance team of diverse, professional, motivated, and engaged staff, creating a shared vision of excellence and superior customer service, leading visibly with confidence and resiliency.  

  • Utilize effective training, performance management, and career-development activities to lead the team to achieve established business results and performance metrics.  

  • Lead and manage in an environment that fosters innovation, promotes creative problem-solving, addresses pockets of resistance, and raises awareness about risks. 

Minimum Qualifications:   

Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of broad-based and progressive experience in total rewards, compensation, and benefits; including 3+ years of leadership experience.    

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation, SHRM-CP or SCP certification, or other related certification.  

  • Higher education experience.  

  • Experience working with collective bargaining agreements.  

  • Experience in executive compensation trends.  

  • Understanding of Workday ERP and web-based computing tools.  

  • Ability to lead major project initiations from inception to conclusion, including but not limited to strategy, requirements definition, solutions design, planning, procurement, implementation, operation, and lessons learned.  

  • Demonstrated competence in other human resource disciplines, including change management, talent acquisition, organizational diagnosis and planning, and diversity and equity.  

  • Demonstrated experience reporting to and providing actionable information to governance organizations and other external stakeholders.
