ROADS & DRAINAGE: SERVICE WORKER/EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II

Pay Rates:
Service Worker/Equipment Operator I – PG-P07 ($15.58)
Service Worker/Equipment Operator II – PG-P08 ($16.36)
Service Worker/Equipment Operator III – PG-P10 ($18.04)
Shift: Monday - Thursday or Tuesday - Friday, 10 Hour Shifts (40 hours/week)
Location: Various Units throughout Polk County (Mulberry, Lakeland, Auburndale and Frostproof)

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
Service Worker/ Equipment Operator I
Primary operation of construction and maintenance equipment listed below at least 50% of work effort. Duties include performance of manual laboring tasks. Operates one or more of the following:
5 - Yard Dump Truck Tractor (Belly Mower) Tractor Mounted Broom Flat Bed Dump Truck Chipper Equipment Tree trimming equipment Hydro Mulcher
(Operates above equipment with the mechanical attachments which require the manipulation of controls on the vehicles and sometimes on the attachment itself.)
May operate small gasoline or other powered machinery such as concrete mixers, air hammers, compressors, pumping equipment and saws. Operates heavier equipment on a temporary, emergency or trainee basis. Washes and cleans and provides routine maintenance on equipment. Performs manual laboring tasks as assigned. May act as lead worker when assigned. Performs related duties as required.
Service Worker/ Equipment Operator II
Primary operation of construction and maintenance equipment listed below at least 50% of work effort. Duties include the performance of manual laboring tasks. Operates one or more of the following:
Self-Propelled Mixer Roller Twelve (12) or Eighteen (18) Yard Dump Trucks Tractor Mounted Mixer Tractor Mowers (Bush Hogs or mowers over six (6) feet in width)
May operate smaller equipment such as dump trucks or other light equipment. Operates heavier equipment on a temporary, emergency or trainee basis. Washes and cleans and provides routine maintenance on equipment. Performs manual laboring tasks as assigned. May act as lead worker when assigned. Performs related duties as required.
Service Worker/ Equipment Operator III
Primary operation of construction and maintenance equipment listed below at least 50% of work effort. Duties include the performance of manual laboring tasks. Operates one or more of the following:
- Grader - Vacuum Truck
- Asphalt Distributor
- Gradall (Telescoping Boom Excavator)
- Bulldozer
- Heavy Crawler Mounted Backhoe
- Transport
- Wheel Loader or End Loader
- Boom Mounted Hydraulic Mower/Ditcher
- Lightning Loader (Trash Truck)
- Self-Propelled Mixer
- Tractor Mounted Backhoe/End Loader
- Sterling Bucket Truck
- Self-contained Pothole Patching Truck
May operate smaller equipment such as dump truck or other light equipment. Washes and cleans and provides routine maintenance on equipment. Performs manual laboring tasks as assigned. May act as lead worker when assigned. Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Service Worker/ Equipment Operator I
Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and use of assigned equipment. Knowledge of traffic and other regulations governing the use of equipment. Ability to see, hear at a normal level, ambulate independently, drive from work site to work site, bend, stoop, sit and stand. Must be able to lift and carry materials that are a minimum of 5 lbs. and greater with the average weight being 45 lbs. Ability to perform tasks that require eye and hand coordination including the use of multi-hand and/or foot controls. Ability to wear Personal Protection Equipment that may be required by supervision. Ability to learn the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable in the operation of equipment. Ability to make routine maintenance checks and emergency repairs to equipment. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work in all weather and environmental conditions (i.e.: sun, rain, cold, swamp, ditches, dirt and hot asphalt).
Service Worker/ Equipment Operator II
Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and use of assigned equipment. Knowledge of traffic and other regulations governing the operation of equipment. Must be able to lift and carry materials that are a minimum of five (5) pounds and greater with the average weight being forty five (45) pounds. Ability to wear Personal Protection Equipment that may be required by supervision. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work in all weather and environmental conditions (i.e.: sun, rain, cold, swamp, ditches, dirt and hot asphalt).
Service Worker/ Equipment Operator III

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Service Worker/ Equipment Operator I
Experience in the operation and routine maintenance of the primary piece of road equipment required of the work unit.
Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to secure a valid Florida Commercial Class "B" driver's license at the time of application within this classification. A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications with the exception of licensure.
Service Worker/ Equipment Operator II
Six (6) months experience in the operation and routine maintenance of the primary piece of equipment required of the work unit.
Must possess a valid driver's license and able to secure a valid Florida Commercial Class "B” driver's license at the time of application within this classification.
A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications with the exception of licensure.
Service Worker/Equipment Operator III
One (1) year experience in the operation and routine maintenance of the primary piece of equipment required of the work unit.
Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to secure a valid Florida Commercial Class "A" driver's license at the time of application within this classification.
A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications with the exception of licensure.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
