Landscaper

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains grounds by cutting, mowing, edging, and trimming grass, flower beds, and shrubberies.
  • Plants and maintains vegetation, such as trees and shrubs.
  • Clears debris, leaves, brush, and weeds from walkways, stairs, roads, ramps, and parking areas.
  • Maintains groundskeeping manual tools and equipment, such as rakes, step ladders, pruning shears, hand edgers, loppers, and shovels.
  • Operates power and motorized equipment, such as weed trimmers, chain saws, backpack blowers, and mowers.
  • Inspects and completes minor repairs to irrigation system.
  • Assists other departments with event set-up.
  • Performs other duties as may be required or assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • One year of landscaping or groundskeeping experience.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license or the ability to obtain a Florida driver’s license within 30 days of employment, with acceptable driving record.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years of related landscaping, groundskeeping, or irrigation experience.
  • State certifications in Public Application and Limited Lawn and Ornamental Licensing by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services for the purchase and supervision of spraying regulated and restricted pesticides, or ability to obtain certifications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of and ability to safely operate and maintain standard manual and power/motorized groundskeeping tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor.
  • Committed to working in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to display quality customer service in keeping with the College’s core values.

WORK ENVIRONMENTAND SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Works primarily in an outside environment with exposure to various weather conditions.
  • Works with hazardous materials.
  • Must wear protective gear.
  • May be assigned to various campus sites.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., unassisted.
  • Required to drive College vehicles.
