General Description

This is a training position in which the incumbent will attend the Law Enforcement Academy. The trainee will be responsible for completion of the City Police Officer Trainee Program and become a certified police officer for the City.

Police Officers, under general direction, perform duties -- such as foot patrol and motorized patrol within the City of Casselberry; prevent crime; detect and arrest the perpetrators of crimes; regulate traffic; provide public assistance; perform all additional functions for the rank as prescribed by relevant laws, city ordinances, departmental rules and regulations, orders and directives of the Police Department.

Examples of Essential Functions

- Completes the Trainee Program.
- Attends and successfully completes the Law Enforcement Academy.
- Prepares for and successfully passes the State of Florida Law Enforcement Certification Examination.
- Completes prescribed law enforcement training program.

Typical Qualifications

- High School or GED (Applicant with a college degree are preferred)
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
- Must pass the State Officer Certification Exam within six months of employment.
- Must pass the POST (Police Officer Selection Test) examination, complete the writing sample and a physical fitness examination (CJSTC Physical Abilities Test).
- Must meet minimum age requirement in accordance with F.S.S. of 19 years of age.
- Must become certified as a law officer within six months of appointment to trainee position.
- Must sign and have notarized a City form attesting that you have not consumed tobacco products within the previous 12 months.
- Must complete the City pre-qualification questionnaire and testing process.

- Qualify in an Oral Review Board
- Qualify in a CVSA Interview/Examination
- Qualify in a physical examination and medical testing administered by the City of Casselberry
approved agent prior to employment

prior to employment.

The police academy training program is held Monday through Thursday, from 6:45 am to 6:00 pm, with occasional weekend days. (10 hour days, 4 days a week) Are you able to commit to that schedule?

The City of Casselberry agrees to pay a sum not to exceed $3600.00 for the Law Enforcement Academy tuition costs. Also, the City will pay for academy uniforms and provide necessary equipment and supplies. Do you agree to those conditions?

While you attend the law enforcement academy, the City of Casselberry will pay you an hourly wage for a 40-hour week in line with the academy training schedule. Overtime will be paid as required by law, when necessary for training purposes. The City of Casselberry will provide you with the same benefits as a general (non-union) employee, which will be described to you in detail during new employee orientation. To be accepted for this paid sponsorship to the police academy, after you complete the law enforcement academy, pass the Florida State Officer Certification Exam, and have been promoted to the rank of Police Officer, you are required to work for the Casselberry Police Department for four a minimum of (4) years. If, by your will, you fail to complete the law enforcement academy, fail to pass the Florida State Officer Certification Exam, or leave the department before the conclusion of the four (4) year commitment, you will be obligated to reimburse the City of Casselberry for any and all costs incurred by the City for the law enforcement academy tuition, academy expenses, training, uniforms, equipment, and supplies paid for by the City.
