Position Summary
The position is responsible for implementing and supervising all aspects of daily activities for infants to youth. The VPK Teacher is responsible for working to provide a successful program that will foster children's social, physical, spiritual, and mental growth in a safe and well-organized environment.

Job Responsibilities
- Supervise activities of Assistant Teachers and provide curriculum standards for the classroom
- Provide a safe and healthy environment, both physically and mentally, to ensure the operation of a quality Child Care program.
- Must have willingness to care for children in all capacities; developmental levels.
- Must successfully complete the Department of Children & Families 45 hour Introductory Child Care Training in specified time period as outlined in the Florida Administrative Code Childcare Standards.
- Attend all staff meetings and meet the educational requirements of establishes in-service training.
- Assist in the planning and implementing of the daily lesson plans that fit the children's needs and interests.
- Take responsibility for the quality of the supplies, equipment and materials.
- Report all suspicions of child abuse to proper authorities.
- Make sure proper procedures are followed for sign-in/out of children on a daily basis.
- Report all accidents to the Supervisor, and completely fills out proper health log and/or accident/incident form.
- Direct or assist in the daily maintenance of the childcare area, ensuring safety and cleanliness.
- Assume equal share of the regular housekeeping chores such as cleaning, preparing for daily activities and cleaning up after projects.
- Ensure YMCA Core Values in all activities.
- Establish a relationship with each child and know his or her present level of understanding; consider the needs of all the children and treat each child with respect and dignity.
- Work toward positive parent/staff relations.
- Participates in enrollment retention, special events and fundraising.
- Completes all paperwork clearly and concisely.
- Remains up to date on emergency procedures and family center policies.
- Promote and represent the mission and core values of the YMCA of Central Florida in the Family Center and its programs.
- All other duties as assigned by management
- Florida's Childcare Professional Certificate (FCCPC) OR National CDA (NECC) OR Must have Staff credential Verification of an associates degree or a Bachelor's degree or higher
- One year of child care experience required
- CPR/AED and First Aid certifications to be obtained within 60 days of employment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Desire and ability to work with children of all ages & developmental levels
- Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind
- Must be capable of working under pressure and independently in a somewhat disruptive, sometimes loud environment.
- Emergency Literacy of VPK Instructors (VPKR course code)
- Implementing the Florida Standards in Preschool Classrooms: 3 years old to Kindergarten (VFSP course Code)
- 15 hours of Literacy Course Requirement
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, which may include weekends and holidays as needed.
- Must be willing to work an on-call schedule rotation as required.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
- The physical activities of this position include: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions. May be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. in various forms, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The employee must be able to perform medium work.
- May be required to sit, stand, or maintain physical activity for extended periods of time.
- Must exhibit patience and understanding. Receives and follows detailed instructions.
- Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind.
- Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor environment and children's well-being. Talking is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, with or without correction
- Must be capable of working under pressure in a somewhat disruptive environment.
