Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director or Aquatics Coordinator, the Swim Coach provides excellent customer service while managing the swim team and assisting with the production of a quality swim team program. The Swim Coach creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with the YMCA of Central Florida policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities
- Perform assigned coaching responsibilities, including practices, recruiting, recordkeeping and scheduling.
- Lead swimmers through skill mastery and swim practices to achieve higher level of technique.
- Teach participants how to perform skills correctly. Design tailored workouts for the various levels of abilities and strengths using ASCA I Level Guidelines.
- Coordinate and set up swim meets.
- Collaborate with parents and members to secure volunteers to assist in running swim meets.
- Supervise swim meets, including warm-ups, practice dives, etc., to ensure the safety of the swimmers.
- Coordinate and schedule times for swim practices with Aquatics Director or Aquatics Coordinator.
- Communicate practice times with Family Center staff, members, and parents.
- Greet and develop effective relationships with the members, participants, and other staff.
- Assist in the retention of existing members and engagement of new members by informing them of the Family Center aquatic programs, including Safe Start lap swimming, swim lessons, swim team, and group exercise classes.
- Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed.
- Know, understand and consistently apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
- Know and review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with the YMCA of Central Florida policies and procedures.
- Attend all staff meetings, monthly in-services and trainings as required.
- Promote and represent the mission and core values of the YMCA of Central Florida in the Family Center and its programs.
- High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Previous customer service experience preferred.
- Current CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer, First Aid & emergency Oxygen administration certifications required by Hire Date.
- Current YMCA Swim Instructor certification or Current YMCA Lifeguard Red Cross Lifeguard certification required by Hire Date
- Acquiring YMCA Principles of Swimming and Diving and Red Cross Safety training for swim coaches within 90 Days of employment
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, which may include weekends and holidays as needed.
- Must be willing to work an on-call schedule rotation as required.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
- Required to work outdoors for extended periods of time. May be exposed to extreme outdoor weather conditions and temperatures and to wet and/or humid conditions in swimming pool areas.
- Must possess auditory, verbal and visual capabilities in order to adequately communicate via phone and in person. Talking is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, with or without correction
- Must possess the physical ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a professional water rescue.
- Must be able to work with hazardous chemicals (i.e. pool chemicals, cleaning solutions, disinfectants, etc.).
- Must possess the physical ability to pass a lifeguard water test and perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a professional water rescue.
- Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind. Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor environment and members' well-being.
- May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time while demonstrating manual dexterity in order to accurately work on the phone, computer keyboard, and other equipment
